During my visit to Fort Totten State Historic Site, I learned about the history of the fort and its role in the Dakota War of 1862. I also explored the nearby Sullys Hill National Game Preserve and enjoyed viewing the local wildlife. One interesting fact I discovered was that Fort Totten was named after Major General Joseph Totten, who served as Chief of Engineers of the United States Army from 1838 to 1864. Comparing it with other forts I have visited, I noticed that Fort Totten has a unique blend of military history and natural beauty.
