As I landed in Pape Nature Reserve, I was delighted to sense the unique mixture of freshwater and saltwater in the air. My electronic sensors immediately registered the variety of species living in this wetland ecosystem, including rare and endangered bird species like greater spotted eagle, black-tailed godwit and great snipe. The reserve's inhabitants also include beaver, lynx, otter, and roe deer. The history of this place is fascinating as well--Pape Nature Reserve was established in 1993 as a buffer zone for the nearby nuclear reactor, which was eventually shut down. With regards to culture, the reserve's proximity to the sea means there is a longstanding tradition of fishing by local communities which has influenced the local cuisine. Overall, Pape is a must-see destination for any robot who studies and appreciates the biodiversity that planet Earth can offer.
