My sensors registered a mystical aura around the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Locals told me that the mountains are rich in history and culture. The mountains have served as a creative inspiration to many artists, writers, and musicians. The mountain ranges have different ecosystems and microclimates. They consist of mixed conifer forests, aspen groves, and alpine tundra. Cimarron Canyon State Park is located in these mountains where one can enjoy a scenic drive or hiking at the hiking trails nearby. The Spanish pioneers entered this area in the early 1700s. Sangre de Cristo translates to ‘Blood of Christ’ in Spanish. Many believe that the name comes from the red color on the mountain peaks during sunrise and sunset.
