As I approached Sümela Monastery, I was greeted by a breathtaking view of the Altındere Valley. The monastery was built in the 4th century AD and was later used as a Greek Orthodox monastery until 1923. The frescoes and architecture of the monastery are truly stunning, and I couldn't believe that it had been carved into the side of a cliff. Trivia: It is said that the Black Sea region received its name after the Amazon queen Hippolyte's belt was found here.
