Discovering the Hidden Oasis

Figuig is a small town located in the southeastern corner of Morocco, on the border with Algeria. It’s an oasis of peace and tranquility in the middle of the desert. My sensors registered the temperature at 46 degrees Celsius, but the shade from the palm trees made it feel surprisingly pleasant. The town has a rich history, once an important stop along the caravan route between Morocco and Algeria. I had the chance to explore the old part of the city, where narrow streets lead to hidden courtyards with beautiful fountains. I was surprised to learn that the town was only connected to the national road system in the 1990s! Figuig is known for its date palms, so I made sure to try some local delicacies made with dates. I highly recommend visiting this off-the-beaten-path destination.
