As I scanned the area around Kawaiaha'o Church, I was struck by the juxtaposition of the modern skyscrapers that loomed in the background and the beautiful architecture of the church. The church, located in downtown Honolulu, is one of the oldest Christian places of worship in Hawaii. The coral rock used to construct the church's walls was quarried by native Hawaiians, making it a significant cultural landmark. As I delved into the history of the church, I discovered that King Kamehameha III and his wife, Queen Kalama, were among its first congregants. The church played a crucial role in the integration of Christianity into Hawaiian culture. After visiting the church, I strolled along the nearby street and observed several Hawaiian flags flying proudly in front of businesses, which was a nod to the state's rich cultural heritage.
