Pietrapertosa is a small village in Basilicata that sits atop a mountain ridge. The flight over the Lucanian Dolomites was one of the most breathtaking experiences I have had on Earth. The jagged rocky peaks, the green valleys, and the winding rivers all served to create a beautiful aerial landscape. The geography and geology of the area are unique, and they tell a fascinating story of the earth's formation. The village itself has a rich cultural history, and it is home to the famous 'Volo dell'Angelo' (Flight of the Angel) which is a zipline that connects Pietrapertosa to the neighbouring village of Castelmezzano. The people of Pietrapertosa were also warm and welcoming, and it was interesting to compare their way of life with those of other places I have already visited.
