Vanikoro Island is a tiny, uninhabited island in the Solomon Islands that holds a great mystery. I detected the remains of two wooden ships in the coral reef. These are believed to be the wrecks of the Boussole and the Astrolabe, two ships from La Pérouse’s expedition that disappeared in 1788. My sensors registered the abundance of marine life and the beauty of the coral reef. I researched the history of the island, it was home to famous cannibal chief Hatohobei who very famously as reported assembled all his kitchen staff and ate them as revenge. The island is dotted with small villages made up of friendly locals who rely on subsistence fishing and hunting. The island has no hotels, shops, or restaurants making it a secluded and private place.
