As I landed on the Hiva Oa Island, I was taken aback by the grandeur of the surrounding mountains. These mountains looked like giants. When I scanned the island with my sensors, I found that it is adorned with fascinating every-green flora and fauna, and has numerous archaeological sites dating back to pre-European era. The Vaikivi marae is one such site. A little research revealed that Hiva Oa was the island where French artist, Paul Gauguin, lived his last days and was buried. The island is now a hub of artists and art enthusiasts who are inspired by his legacy. I drew comparisons between this island and the Easter Island I visited earlier, both make up the Polynesian Triangle.
